“Your Name” A Popular Animated Film Regarding Two High School Students

Storyline and release date
“Your Name” was released in Japan on August 26, 2016, with the animated film being written and directed by Makoto Shinkai (新海 誠). Makoto is a known director of anime and former graphic designer. Makoto’s previous works was him being the director, writer, photographer, color design, and editing for animated titled, “The Garden of Words” (言の葉の庭: Kotonoha no Niwa), which was released on May 31, 2013. The story is about two teenagers named Mitsuha (voiced by Mone Kamishiraishi) and Taki (Ryunosuke Kamiki). With the film’s story focusing heavily on this two characters, Shinkai does a great job of showing how Mitsuha and Taki has both a mysterious dream.
Mitsuha is a female high school student who lives in a rural town, which her father is the mayor and hardly has time to stay home and spend time with his daughter. Since her father is not home usually, Mitsuha lives with her elementary school-aged little sister and her grandmother.
Taki is a male high school student and lives in central Tokyo. Taki enjoys spending time with his friends, works part-time at an Italian restaurant, and is interested in architecture/fine arts.
Prior to the release of the film in theaters, the original novel that inspired the animated movie was released on June 18th. The price of the book was at 560 yen (about $5).
Great opening at Japanese box office
“Your Name” opened in theaters on August 26, 2016, and the animated film earned 1,277,960,000 yen (roughly $12.51 million) over the weekend. With the anime film racking up millions during the opening day, the movie also ranked number one on the Japanese box office and sold 688,000 tickets for 930 million yen ($91 million).
